Does anyone want to backtest with me?

14

I’m going to need an accountability push from someone if I’m really going to backtest the new idea I shared with you this morning.

Does anyone want to backtest 200 trades of this (or anything you’re working on) with me?

We can share results on Friday.

Awesome, here are my rules/goal for this first round:

    EURUSD 1h, Contrarian Sentiment

Enter a trade in the opposite direction when the MACD (12, 26, 9) hits or exceeds .002/-.002.
    SL: None
PT: 2 S/R levels away from entry point
Goal: Is it a viable system?

If it is viable, then I’ll start playing with money management and details. I’ll keep screenshots and results and we can compare on Friday.

Does 8:30am EST work for everyone on Friday? I’ll setup a Citrix room.

I tested 2001 to the beginning of 2005 and I’m having absolutely unbelievable results!!!!!

Can’t wait to share it with you.

  6. JeremyA says:

hi, i started the backtesting from jan/2006, does that matter?

  7. Triffany says:

    Jeremy,
That shouldn’t really matter. Unless you’re backtesting the same thing I am and then you won’t get enough trade opportunities. 200 Trades by Friday means 40 a day if you include Friday and 50/day if you don’t. 4 years of data only gave me 40 trades, though the system is currently at 38 wins and 2 still open. I’ll finish it up to current data and then go back over it again trying different money management.

Since no one complained about the meeting time I chose I went with it.

Here’s the link to register for the backtesting review meeting on Friday morning at 8:30am EST.

hi, i want to be sure am doing the right counter trades, i am taking two countary trades, 1st is when the macd hits 0.002 and 2nd when the macd just starts decreasing after exceeding the 0.002 mark… i hope that is ok… also, for my s&R level, am generally using the level i feel were tested more times as opposed to just every other support or resistance level… thirdly, i am using a lot size of 0.1 (ie the least lot size on forex tester).. i hope that is OK…

  10. Triffany says:

    Jeremy,
    That’s fine!

Whatever your rules are for the round of backtesting is great by me!

  11. JeremyA says:

hello again… i’ve been backtesting since tuesday, i had to restart from 2001 so that i could get more data, but i noticed that the macd doesn’t trigger a lot of trades, for instance for the whole of 2001 i only got in about 12 trades…is this normal?… i can’t wait for our discussions on friday! thanks Triff for this!!!!

  12. Triffany says:

Hmmm…actually 2001 only gave me 4 trades, my best year so far is 2004 with 21 trades, but … you’re not going to believe this…the system is at 100% win ratio. Well, I lost one, I guess. It hit my profit target, but I held the trade for so long that what I paid in interest cost me more than the trade won.

  13. ConnieE says:

I would love to backtest with you, but I can’t do it until closer to Christmas. Would that work? -Connie.

  14. KellyG says:

Sorry Triff — 4:30am Alaska time was just a touch to early for me this morning. I am bummed to have missed the discussion.
